Mayor Ohana Promotes Dismantling Israel Water Corporations
Shuki Ohana says that the purpose of Israel Water Corporations' establishment has not been achieved and it's time to dismantle them.
The corporations were established with a broad vision in order to save on expenses and eliminate unnecessary expenses. In practice, says Ohana, toperating expenses are unnecessarily high, it's hard to get the corporations to respond to problems and their prices are skyrocketing out of proportion.
This week Ohana sent a letter to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu which said, "Mr. Prime Minister, beyond harming the service to the resident, the corporations are leading to a significant increase in water tariffs. The water corporations must be dismantled and the activities returned to the authorities in order to lower tariffs and improve the service.
Ohana feels that increases in water tariffs have ben disproportionate. While there was justification in the past for the establishment of the corporations due to mismanagement by local authorities, today, the operations can safely be turned back to the cities and citizens can save billions of shekels a year.
